Vintage sourcing has seasons. Understanding these patterns helps you buy better and spend less.
Spring (March-May)
Peak garage sale season. As weather warms, people clean out and sell. This is prime time for sourcing, but competition is fierce. Estate sales also pick up after the winter slowdown.
Summer (June-August)
Moving season means estate sales and quick liquidations. People relocating often sell rather than move heavy furniture. Garage sale quality can drop mid-summer as the serious sellers finish early.
Fall (September-November)
A second wave of garage sales as people prepare for winter. This is also when auction houses ramp up for holiday buying. Some of the best estate sales happen in fall.
Winter (December-February)
Slower sourcing but excellent buying opportunities. Booth dealers clear inventory, online sellers discount to make rent, and competition drops. January is often the best month for auction bargains.
Holiday Considerations
Stock up on giftable items before November. Holiday-themed vintage items sell well from October through December. After Christmas, prices drop significantly on everything.
